How to manage sessions in UCSC Browser?

 

Accessing the UCSC Genome Browser

 

  • Visit the UCSC Genome Browser website using your preferred web browser.
  •  

  • Ensure that your internet connection is stable for seamless session management.

 

Creating a Session

 

  • Navigate to the UCSC Genome Browser homepage.
  •  

  • Select your genome of interest using the genome and assembly dropdown menus.
  •  

  • Adjust track settings to your preference, such as enabling or disabling specific data tracks.
  •  

  • Once you've configured the session as desired, locate and click the "Session" link at the top of the page.
  •  

  • In the Session Management section, click "Save" to create a new session. You will be prompted to provide a name and description for your session.

 

Saving Your Session

 

  • Ensure your current browser settings reflect your desired session setup.
  •  

  • Go to the "Session" link at the top navigation bar.
  •  

  • In the "Save Current Session" section, enter a distinctive name and a brief description for easy identification.
  •  

  • Click "Save" to store your configuration. A confirmation message will display, showing your session’s URL, which you can bookmark or share.

 

Loading a Session

 

  • Access the UCSC Genome Browser and click on the "Session" link.
  •  

  • In the "Load Saved Session" section, you can either enter the URL of the session you wish to load or find your session from the displayed list, if logged in.
  •  

  • Click "Submit" to load your session. The page should refresh to reflect your saved preferences.

 

Managing Saved Sessions

 

  • Go to the "Session" page via the top navigation link.
  •  

  • In the "Manage Sessions" section, you'll find options such as "Update", "Rename", or "Delete" for existing sessions.
  •  

  • Choose the relevant option to modify your session as required. Follow on-screen prompts to confirm actions like deletion or renaming.

 

Sharing Sessions

 

  • After saving a session, obtain the URL from the confirmation message or the "My Sessions" list on the Session page.
  •  

  • Share this URL with collaborators to allow them access to your configured session settings.
  •  

  • Note that depending on your session's privacy settings, others may need authorization to view or modify your session.
